Several Equidam features use an AI model to read material about your company and pre-fill your profile. Each one sends some company information outside Equidam for processing. If you prefer not to send anything to an AI model provider, you can answer the questions yourself.
What happens to the documents I upload?
Equidam reads the text out of your files on its own servers and sends that text, not the file, to an AI model provider. Images are not read, and nothing is sent from a scanned page with no text layer.
About 50,000 characters at most are sent per upload, across all files.
With several files, each file name is included in the text sent.
The model returns fields such as company name, description, industry, country, founder names and roles, revenue, projections, funding and investors.
If the AI call fails, Equidam falls back to a rule-based reading of the text on its own servers.
Document Upload also sends the company name found in your files to company-data providers, depending on configuration, to find your website and public company data. Your documents take priority over data found online. The upload screen warns: "Your documents will be shared with AI language model providers for processing."
Are my uploaded files stored, and for how long?
Equidam does not delete uploaded files, whether processing succeeds or fails. They are stored in a folder for your company.
For each Document Upload run, Equidam also keeps the text sent to the model, the model's reply, and the raw responses from any data sources consulted. For each AI Discovery run, it keeps the raw responses from the data sources consulted.
What does AI Discovery send?
AI Discovery, the Let us search the web card, starts from your company name or website address, plus the match you pick if asked to choose, and any follow-up answers. It reads your public website and public company records. Company-data providers, domain registration records, patent databases and news sources may also be consulted, depending on configuration. An AI model provider then receives what was found to classify your industry. Depending on configuration, it may also help draft questionnaire answers. Starting financial projections are estimated by Equidam's own rules, without an AI call.
What does the AI decide, and what does it not decide?
The AI suggests inputs, such as an industry and questionnaire answers, and it does not decide your valuation. The five methods then calculate the valuation range from the data in your company profile, with the same calculation used for data you enter by hand. After Document Upload or AI Discovery, a recap lets you edit what was found, and the valuation recalculates from your changes.
Other features that use an AI model
Import Data can read uploaded decks, plans and workbooks with AI. It writes nothing to your company until you apply the proposed values. These files are not deleted either. See Importing financials from Excel.
Identify with AI in the questionnaire sends the business description you type to an AI model provider, which suggests industries.
The Equidam MCP tools let an AI assistant you connect with your Equidam API token classify an industry and request a 10-question estimate. The assistant sends a business description, or an industry code, current and year-4 revenue and country, plus optional founding year, employees, founders and currency. Equidam returns the low, high and average values. It saves the inputs and the resulting valuation in a separate company linked to your token, overwritten on each request and never added to your own companies. What you type into the assistant is handled by its provider under your agreement with them.
How can I avoid sending data to an AI model provider?
Choose Answer 10 questions instead on the Document Upload screen, or fill in the questionnaire and financial projections yourself. To decide what is sent, use No document handy? Get a prompt for your AI to produce a short Markdown summary, edit it, and upload that instead of your full deck. Pasting the prompt into your own assistant shares your answers with that assistant.
