When you start a valuation on the free plan, Equidam asks how you want to fill in your company's data. This choice is your onboarding path: upload your documents, or let us search the web. You can also answer 10 questions yourself. Every path fills in the same company, and you can switch until your first estimate is ready. After that, the path for that company is settled, and trying a different one means adding a new company.
Which onboarding paths can you choose?
The screen titled How would you like to value this company? shows two cards.
Upload your documents, marked Recommended: you upload a pitch deck, business plan or financial statements, and we take the numbers from there. The button is Upload documents. This is Document Upload.
Let us search the web: we look up your company online and fill in what we find. You can answer a few questions while the search runs and fix anything we got wrong. The button is Start the search. This is AI Discovery.
Both paths end on a review screen where you check and edit the values before you continue.
The 10-question estimate is not a card on this screen. You can open it from the document upload screen, from the web search failure screen, or with the back button on its first page.
How do you switch to a different path?
Every switch link keeps you on the same company.
Document upload, before the analysis starts: Let AI find your data instead or Answer 10 questions instead.
During the web search: Have a pitch deck or financials? Upload documents instead, or Choose another way to start for the two cards.
Web search finds too little: Upload Documents, Start Questionnaire (the 10-question estimate), or Search again with a different name.
Document analysis fails: Try again or Answer questions instead.

Once the document analysis has started, that screen offers no link to switch.
What happens to the data you already entered?
It stays with the same company. If you typed answers into the form beside the web search and then switch, we save those answers to your company. That save happens only if the search had already started. The answers are also handed to the 10-question estimate if you open it in the same browser tab within 15 minutes.
Why did the web search start without me choosing?
You arrived through an Equidam website link that already carried your company name or website, so we started the search for you. This only happens while no path has been started for that company. To pick something else, click Choose another way to start on the search screen. After any path has started, reloading the page shows the two cards instead of starting a new search.
Can you start over after your estimate is ready?
Not for the same company: after you confirm the search or document results, you move on to the account screen, Your valuation is ready. From there, your browser's back button stays on that screen. Once the first estimate for a company is complete, Equidam opens your dashboard instead of the path screen.
To try a different path, add another company with Add a new company. On the free plan, the new company gets the same two cards. If you opened this by mistake, click Back to my companies on the path screen. After you confirm, the new company is deleted.
Limits
Timings: the web search screen says it takes a few minutes, and the 10-question estimate says it takes about 3 minutes. Document analysis shows no expected time.
The path screen appears only on the free plan. If you signed up for a paid plan, you start with the 10-question estimate.
Files you upload are shared with AI language model providers for processing. If that is a concern, use answer 10 questions manually, linked in the privacy notice under the upload area.
We record which path started for each company: web search or document upload. The 10-question estimate is not recorded. This record is not used in the valuation calculation.
Common questions
I picked the wrong path. Do I lose my progress?
No. All paths fill in the same company, and answers you typed during a web search are carried over when you switch.
Can I use the 10-question estimate instead of uploading documents or searching the web?
Yes. Click Answer 10 questions instead on the document upload screen, or Start Questionnaire if the web search cannot find your company.
Can I value a second company with a different path?
Yes. Add it with Add a new company. Each new company on the free plan gets its own path screen.
Does the path I choose change my valuation?
The path only changes how the inputs are filled in. You review those inputs before continuing, and the valuation reflects the data you confirm.
