Valuation progress page: your estimate and comparable companies

Valuation progress shows your first valuation range, how the methods are weighted, and up to 8 funding rounds from companies like yours.

Valuation progress is the page Equidam opens when a new user finishes their first estimate, through AI Discovery, Document Upload or the 10-question estimate. It shows your valuation range, the methods behind it, and up to 8 similar rounds: funding rounds raised by companies like yours. Without Benchmarks access, which the free plan does not include, 3 of those rounds are shown in full and the rest are blurred.

What does the Valuation progress page show?

Your estimate comes first. Until both the questionnaire and the financial projections are complete, the estimate is a valuation range labelled Preliminary estimate, with its midpoint. Once both are complete, it shows one pre-money valuation figure labelled Valuation estimate.

The How it’s computed chart shows each valuation method and its weight. A line under the estimate plots your range against the pre-money valuation of each visible comparable round and their median.

Where do the comparable companies come from?

Equidam uses the first of these sources that applies to your company:

  1. Rounds you hand-picked on the Benchmarks tab. These are shown as you chose them, even if there are fewer than 3.

  2. Your competitors' rounds, from a background competitor search, when you have not saved Benchmarks filters. Depending on configuration, Equidam may run this search. It needs your company website, industry and country.

  3. The filters you saved on the Benchmarks tab.

  4. Your company profile: industry, development stage and country.

If a competitor search runs, the page does not wait for it and shows rounds found from your company profile meanwhile. The competitors' rounds replace them on a later visit, once the search has finished and at least 3 competitors have funding data.

With fewer than 3 rounds from filters or profile data, Equidam widens the filters one step at a time. Countries widen to their region, then the industry widens to its parent category, then the stage widens to the neighbouring stages. Each widens once at most, and widening never removes a filter. If there are still fewer than 3 rounds, the section is hidden.

Which similar rounds are locked without Benchmarks access?

The section, titled Companies like followed by your company name, holds up to 8 rounds. The blur depends on Benchmarks access, not on your plan, so a paid account without Benchmarks access also sees blurred rows. Without Benchmarks access, the first 3 appear as tiles with the logo, company name, round month, Pre-money and Raised. The rest appear as blurred Comparable company rows with the hint In your report. Details of blurred rows are never sent to your browser.

With Benchmarks access, every round is shown, and rounds after the first 3 appear as normal table rows.

Raised is the disclosed investment. Otherwise it is post-money minus pre-money, or a dash when neither is known.

How does my estimate compare with the peers?

The strip above the tiles shows Peer median pre-money and Median raise, calculated over the rounds in this section only. A sentence below says whether your estimate sits above or below that median. Your range reflects the data you entered, so changing it moves your position against these peers.

See your benchmarks opens the Benchmarks tab.

How do I refine the estimate?

Refine your facts opens the questionnaire, and Add financials opens the financial projections. Once the questionnaire is complete, its button reads Review your answers. Once the financial projections are complete, theirs reads Review financials.

When both are complete, the page shows a single figure instead of a range, and a Get your report button appears under the estimate. The report card lower down always has one. Both open the upgrade window on the free plan, otherwise the Reports page.

Limits

  • The Companies like section and the refine steps appear only on screens at least 960 pixels wide. On a phone, the page shows Continue on desktop instead.

  • When the valuation is negative or cannot be calculated, the comparables, the refine steps and the report card are hidden, and the page shows a message with the next step.

  • If the rounds cannot be loaded, only the section is hidden.

  • Saving Benchmarks filters and hand-picking rounds need Benchmarks access. The free plan does not include it.

  • Most of the text on this page is in English, whatever language your account uses.

Common questions

Why is there no Companies like section on my page?

Fewer than 3 rounds matched even after widening, the valuation is negative, or your screen is narrower than 960 pixels.

Why did my comparable companies change since my last visit?

Changing your Benchmarks filters or hand-picked rounds changes it. A finished competitor search can also replace it.

Does the page wait for the competitor search?

No. If a competitor search is running, the page shows rounds found from your company profile in the meantime. Reopen the page later to see whether the competitors' rounds have replaced them.
