SAFEs & Ownership: where to edit shareholders and SAFEs

Your cap table, SAFEs, convertible notes and next-round modelling now live on the SAFEs & Ownership tab in the left menu, not on Company Info.

The SAFEs & Ownership tab is where you keep your cap table (the list of who owns the company and how much) and your SAFEs (Simple Agreement for Future Equity, an investment that turns into shares at your next priced round) and convertible notes (a loan that converts into shares, usually with interest). It also models what happens to everyone's ownership at your next priced round and at exit. The shareholders editor used to sit on the Company Info tab and is no longer there.

Where is the SAFEs & Ownership tab?

It is in the left menu, below Reports and above the ESOP & 409A item. On the dashboard, the Edit shareholders link on the Ownership card also opens this tab at the shareholders editor.

What moved to SAFEs & Ownership?

  • The shareholders editor moved here from the Company Info tab. It is now the Current Shareholders section at the top.

  • The old SAFE Calculator became this tab on 9 June 2026.

  • The questionnaire no longer asks which types of investors you have. Equidam fills that answer from the Investor type you set on cap table rows.

Previous funding rounds still have their own editor on the Funding tab. Investment details you add to a cap table row are also added there as a round.

How do I edit my shareholders?

Changes save automatically, without a save button.

  1. Open SAFEs & Ownership and go to Current Shareholders.

  2. Click + Add more shareholders to add a row, then type a name. A row without a name is not saved.

  3. Choose a Group for the row: Founder, Employee shareholder, Investor or Option pool. The option pool holds shares reserved for employee options, including options granted but not yet exercised. Staff who already own shares are employee shareholders.

  4. Enter each holding as a percentage, or switch to Number of shares and let Equidam work out the percentages.

  5. For an investor or employee shareholder row, open the details arrow to add Amount invested, Investment date, Investor type, Round type, Post-money valuation and Equity % received. All six fields are optional.

  6. Click the bin icon to remove a row.

The donut chart beside the table shows the total. A warning appears when it is above or below 100%.

What else is on the tab?

  • Current SAFEs & Notes: a register of the SAFEs and convertible notes you have signed. Click + Add a SAFE or note to add one. If your funding history contains convertible rounds, a banner offers to import them.

  • The next-round section, titled with your company's name: enter a Round size, a target Option pool after the round (10% by default) and who bears the pool top-up. Pick a Pre-money valuation (the company's value before the new money) from Low, Equidam or High in your valuation range, or set a custom one. Without a completed valuation, you type the pre-money yourself. A pro-forma cap table and charts then show ownership before and after the round, and How this converts lists the maths line by line.

  • Save this scenario stores your round assumptions under a name. Once 2 are saved, Compare scenarios shows them side by side. Add a hypothetical SAFE tests an extra SAFE in the model without adding it to your register.

  • At exit: enter an Exit value and Dilution before exit (20% by default) to see what each group takes home.

  • Market benchmarks and About this tool: market data on SAFE terms, and the model's assumptions.

Who can edit it, and what are the limits?

  • Plan: the tab works on the free plan. The suggested exit value from Exit & ROI does not appear there, because Exit & ROI is a paid feature.

  • Roles: anyone in the organisation that holds the company can view and edit the tab. No role has separate permissions.

  • Prerequisite: the cap table saves only after your first valuation estimate is complete.

  • Shareholders: up to 50 rows.

  • Failed saves: a red banner reads "Your latest changes could not be saved." Edit a field again to retry.

  • Undo: each cap table save appears on the History tab, where Restore takes the company back to that point. Removing a SAFE or note asks for confirmation and cannot be undone.

  • Hypothetical SAFEs are never stored, not even in a saved scenario.

  • The exit view assumes everyone shares pro-rata. Liquidation preferences are not modelled.

  • Deleting a row does not remove a funding round or investor type it already added.

Common questions

Why can't I find shareholders on the Company Info tab?

The editor moved to the SAFEs & Ownership tab, in the Current Shareholders section. Your existing shareholders came with it.

Where do I record a SAFE that has already converted into shares?

Add the investor as a row in Current Shareholders. Only SAFEs and notes that are still outstanding go in Current SAFEs & Notes.

Does the SAFEs & Ownership tab change my valuation?

Only through investor types: they feed a questionnaire answer used by the Checklist method, one of the five methods. The next-round and exit models read your valuation range without changing it.
