AI Discovery searches public sources for your company and pre-fills your first valuation from what it finds. You pick it from the Let us search the web card after entering your company name, then confirm or correct every value it found. It is part of free plan onboarding, at signup and when a free plan account adds a company.
What do you enter to start the search?
Your website, or your company name. Type the address into the box with the https:// prefix and press Analyse my website, or press Continue with the name only.
A link gives the search more to work with: Equidam reads the site, funding history and news to identify your company. Without one it works from what is public and may ask follow-up questions. A website given at signup skips this screen.
How does Equidam pick the right company?
A name goes to a business directory, which returns up to 5 candidates, companies in your country (from your IP address) first.
Several matches: pick a card under "We found multiple matches. Which company is yours?" and press Confirm Selection.
One match: used automatically, unless the search was started for you, when you are asked "Is this your company?" and can answer No, search with a different name.
No match: the fallback screen below.
Which sources does the search read?
The company's website
Domain registration records
Databases for description, size and location.
Crunchbase, for founders, funding and stage.
Equidam's public company database.
An AI model, which reads that text to classify your industry.
Depending on your configuration, the run may also consult patent records, recent news and published financials for a listed company; the Patents and News nodes on the screen belong to those lookups.
What does it fill in, and can you change it?
Everything is editable, in the recap on the right of the processing screen. You can type there while the search runs, and your answers are kept over anything it finds.
It also writes 37 questionnaire answers, your current-year and year-3 revenue, estimated cost lines for the projection years, your founders as cap table rows, and your logo.
The revenue and cost figures are not the AI model's: they come from Equidam's benchmarks for revenue per employee, funding stage and industry costs.
Your industry has no recap row, so change it in the Questionnaire, where each answer the run filled carries a Pre-filled by AI badge and a confidence dot: high from 0.7, medium from 0.4, low below. Press Confirm to accept it, or type over it.
Where does the valuation number come from?
From the five methods applied to the data you confirm: Scorecard, Checklist, VC method, DCF with long-term growth and DCF with multiples, weighted by your development stage. The search produces the inputs, not the number: correct a figure and Equidam recalculates before you reach your dashboard.
How long does it take, and what are the limits?
Most runs take 60 to 140 seconds. A slow data source triggers a retry, and the run is given up after 8 minutes.
The recap cannot be confirmed mid-run: the button reads "Discovering…" until the run finishes.
You get 20 AI Discovery requests a day, shared with Document Upload; a name lookup and a run each count as one. Past that: "Too many AI discovery requests today. Please try again tomorrow."
A paid account adding a company gets the company details and billing steps instead of these cards.
You do not have to wait on the page. Notify me when done uses browser notifications, which most iOS browsers do not support, so Email me when it's ready sits beside it. Leave an address and you can close the page; the email carries your company name and a link back, no valuation figures.
When nothing is found, the screen says "We couldn't find enough information about [your company] online" and offers Upload documents, the 10-question estimate behind Answer 10 questions, and Search again with a different name. Your company is created before the search starts, so it is there either way.
What is stored, and what is sent to other companies?
Equidam sends your company name or domain to the providers it queries, and your website text with the name to the AI model. Nothing from your account, such as login or billing details, goes to them.
Each source's raw response is cached (24 hours to 90 days, by source) and archived against the run with the questionnaire answers and financial estimates. The notification address is stored on the run record and not written to the logs.
Common questions
Do I have to use AI Discovery?
No. The other card is Upload your documents, which reads a pitch deck or financial statements, and the 10-question estimate is offered on the failure screen.
Why is the founding year wrong?
The run cross-checks it against your domain registration date: a domain under 2 years old beats a source claiming the company is 3 or more years older. Correct it in the Founded Year row.
Does the AI decide my valuation?
No. It fills in inputs, which you confirm or change. The number comes from the five methods applied to those inputs.
