Equidam's free calculators are three public web tools for fundraising arithmetic: a pre-money and post-money valuation calculator, a convertible note calculator with a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) view, and a startup market size calculator. They work only with the numbers you type in, need no account and do not produce an Equidam valuation.
Which free calculators does Equidam offer?
There are three, each on its own page:
Pre-money and post-money valuation calculator: www.equidam.com/pre-money-post-money-valuation-calculator/
Convertible note calculator: www.equidam.com/convertible-note-calculator/
Startup market size (total addressable market, TAM) calculator: www.equidam.com/tam-market-size-calculator/
The convertible note calculator also has a SAFE view, which uses SAFE labels and has no interest fields.
How does the pre-money and post-money valuation calculator work?
A pre-money valuation is what a company is worth before a new investment, and the post-money valuation is the pre-money valuation plus the investment. The calculator uses three formulas:
Post-money valuation = pre-money valuation + investment amount
Investors' share = investment amount ÷ post-money valuation
Founders' share = pre-money valuation ÷ post-money valuation
Changing Pre-money Valuation or Investment Amount recalculates the post-money valuation. The Equity Distribution pie labels everyone who owned the company before the round as Founders.
How does the convertible note and SAFE calculator work?
A convertible note is a loan to a startup that turns into shares at a later funding round. A SAFE is not a loan but converts the same way.
Interest (convertible note view): note amount = Investment × (1 + (yearly interest rate as a decimal ÷ 12) × Months to event). Interest applies whenever the rate is above 0%, its starting value. The Interest switch only shows or hides the fields.
Conversion valuation: the round's pre-money valuation. With Cap switched on, it becomes the lower of the cap and the pre-money valuation. With Discount switched on, that figure is multiplied by (1 − discount).
New round's share = round investment ÷ (pre-money valuation + round investment).
Note or SAFE share = (note amount ÷ conversion valuation) × (1 − new round's share).
Founders' share = Founders Equity % × what remains. Original investors get the rest.
Discount starts switched on at 20% and Cap starts switched off. The chart repeats the calculation for round valuations from roughly half to double the pre-money valuation you entered. Below the calculator, two bar charts count the discounts and cap-to-valuation ratios stored from visitors' entries.
How does the TAM, SAM and SOM calculator work?
TAM (total addressable market) is the revenue available if you won the whole market. SAM (serviceable addressable market) is the part your business model and geography can reach. SOM (serviceable obtainable market) is the part you can realistically win. The calculator has four approaches, one per tab:
Industry Benchmarks: TAM = benchmark market size, SAM = 15% of TAM, SOM = 2% of SAM.
Top-Down Approach: TAM = the total market size you enter, SAM = TAM × target segment % × geographic reach %, SOM = SAM × market share %.
Bottom-Up Approach: TAM = potential customers × average revenue per customer, SAM = TAM × % of customers you can reach, SOM = SAM × conversion rate %.
Value Theory: TAM = potential customers × your solution cost, SAM = potential customers × (current solution cost − your solution cost + additional value created) × 30%, SOM = SAM × 5-year adoption rate %.
After two or more approaches, a comparison table adds an average. With three or more, it drops the highest and lowest results first.
The benchmark market size is the average TAM that companies on the Equidam platform entered in their questionnaire. It uses each company's latest data, leaves out estimated answers and removes outliers with the 1.5 × interquartile range rule. Latest Data covers the last 48 months. The Growth Rate (%) column shows a fixed 8.5% on every row; it is not calculated from that data.
How do calculator results relate to your Equidam valuation?
An Equidam valuation weights the five methods (Scorecard, Checklist, VC method, DCF with long-term growth and DCF with multiples) and reflects the data you enter in the platform. None of the calculators feeds those methods, and nothing you typed in a calculator is copied into your company when you sign up.
In the SAFEs & Ownership tab, each SAFE or note converts at min(cap, (1 − discount) × your selected pre-money valuation). The public calculator applies the discount to the capped figure instead, so with both terms on the two can show different ownership.
Limits
Nothing is saved for you to come back to. Inputs are lost when you leave the page. Entries sent to Equidam are stored with a session number and, if you are signed in, your user ID, but they are not added to your company.
Pre-money and post-money calculator: each field accepts up to 10,000,000,000.
Convertible note calculator: discount runs from 0 to 100%, and months to event from 1 to 50 in the convertible note view. If the inputs give any group more than 100% of the company, the chart does not draw.
TAM calculator: if no platform company matches your filters, the benchmark tab shows "No benchmark data available for the selected filters." Export as PDF builds the file in your browser; Copy to Excel copies the table to your clipboard.
Common questions
Will my calculator inputs appear in my Equidam account?
No. No calculator writes to your company, so you enter your data again in the platform.
Where do the TAM benchmarks come from?
From TAM answers that companies gave in the Equidam questionnaire, averaged after removing outliers.
Why does SAFEs & Ownership show different ownership than the public calculator?
When a SAFE has both a cap and a discount, SAFEs & Ownership uses whichever gives the lower conversion price, while the public calculator applies both together. It also converts all your SAFEs together.
