A preset is a named copy of a company's Advanced Settings that everyone in your organisation can apply to any other company. Use it when you value many companies with the same house setup. Presets exist only for licensed organisations, and you can only use them while Custom values is switched on.
Who can see and use presets
The Presets menu appears in the Advanced Settings toolbar only when your organisation holds an Equidam license. Organisations without a license do not see it.
Presets belong to the organisation, not to the person who saved them. Each preset in the list shows the name of the member who created it. Admins and Members can save, apply and delete presets. Guests have read-only access, so they cannot save, apply or delete presets. A Guest who tries to save or delete one sees "You have read-only access. Contact an admin to request editing permissions."
What a preset saves
A preset stores the full Advanced Settings of the company you save it from:
the method weight of each valuation method (Scorecard method, Checklist method, VC method, DCF (discounted cash flow) with long-term growth, DCF with multiples and the Multiples method), as whole percentages that total 100%
every method parameter: Average Valuation of Comparable company and the criteria weights for the Scorecard method, Maximum Valuation achievable and the criteria weights for the Checklist method, Annual Required ROI (the yearly return on investment an investor requires) for the VC method, EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) multiples, long-term growth, the inputs of the discount rate (WACC, weighted average cost of capital), and the yearly survival rates used by the two DCF methods
which parameters were left on the Equidam default, so they stay on the default when you apply the preset
A preset does not store your Advanced Multiples source choice. It stores the resulting EBITDA multiple value only.
How to save your current settings as a preset
Open Advanced Settings on the company whose settings you want to reuse.
Turn on Custom values and make sure the method weights total 100%.
Click Presets in the toolbar, then Save current settings as preset….
Type a name, for example "Seed portfolio", and click Save preset.
The new preset appears at the top of the Organisation presets list.
How to apply a preset to a company
Open Advanced Settings on the company you want to change.
Turn on Custom values.
Click Presets and click the preset name.
Applying replaces the company's method weights and parameters with the preset's values and saves them straight away. Any parameter the preset does not contain is set back to the Equidam default, so the company ends up matching the preset. A preset that holds method weights only changes the weights and leaves the company's current parameters untouched. The valuation then recalculates from these settings and the company's own data.
Applying is a one-off copy, not a live link. Deleting a preset later does not change companies it was applied to.
Limits
Custom values must be on to apply or save a preset. The menu shows "Turn on custom values to use presets." when it is off.
Weights must total 100% before you can save. The menu shows "Weights must total 100% to save a preset." otherwise.
Names can be up to 80 characters and must be unique within your organisation. Leading and trailing spaces are ignored.
Your organisation can hold up to 50 presets. When you reach the limit, you see "Preset limit reached. Delete an unused preset first."
You cannot edit or rename a preset. Delete it and save a new one instead.
If the save after applying is rejected, for example because a preset value is outside the range a field allows, a save error appears and the company's stored settings do not change.
There is no undo after applying a preset. To keep a company's current settings, save them as a preset first.
Deleting a preset removes it for everyone in your organisation and cannot be undone from the menu.
If the list fails to load, the menu shows "Couldn’t load presets." with a Retry link. If a save or delete cannot reach our server, you see "Could not reach the server. Check your connection and try again."
Common questions
Why don't I see the Presets button?
Either your organisation does not hold an Equidam license, or the company is on the free plan, where the whole Advanced Settings toolbar is hidden.
Can I save a new version of a preset under the same name?
No. A second preset with the same name is refused with "A preset with this name already exists. Delete it first or pick another name."
What happens to survival rates when the two companies have a different number of forecast years?
Survival rates are stored per forecast year. If the company you apply the preset to has more forecast years than the company it was saved from, the extra years are set to the Equidam default.
