Some cells on the Financials tab start with numbers you did not type. They come from an AI estimate built for your company, from industry averages of comparable companies, or from a formula such as your country's tax rate. Until your financials are complete and saved, your valuation range is built from these estimates, so check each estimated row against your own plan.
Which rows get an estimate, and from which source?
AI estimate: only for companies created through AI Discovery. It covers Revenue / ARR, Cost of goods sold, Salaries, Other operating expenses and D&A for each forecast year.
Industry averages: available for any company that has completed its first estimate, including AI Discovery companies. For each row, comparable companies' figure relative to their revenue is applied to your revenue.
Formula: used by the magic wand when neither of the above has a value for the cell.
When both an AI estimate and an industry average exist for the same cell, the AI estimate is suggested. Receivables, Inventory, Payables, Interest and Taxes come from industry averages or the formula.
Where do the AI estimate's numbers come from?
First-year revenue draws on signals discovered about your company, such as headcount, funding raised, funding stage and company age. Growth and cost ratios come from companies in Equidam's database in the same industry, stage and, where possible, country. If fewer than 30 comparable companies match, the comparison group is widened step by step.
Other data sources may also be consulted, depending on configuration. For the current list of providers, see the data article linked below.
How is the formula calculated?
D&A, Receivables, Inventory and Payables: that year's revenue multiplied by an industry ratio.
Interest: your year-end debt multiplied by an interest rate based on your country.
Taxes: your country's tax rate applied to profit before tax, reduced by tax assets built up from earlier losses. A year with a loss before tax gets 0.
The Taxes tooltip always says the figure is based on country tax rates. The number the wand applies is the industry-average suggestion when one exists, and the country tax formula only when there is none.
How do I see which cells are estimated?
Switch Input Level to Advanced. D&A, Interest, Taxes, Receivables, Inventory and Payables then show a magic wand icon in every column after the first. Hover over it to see the suggested value and its source, for example "Receivables are estimated based on industry averages" or "Taxes are estimated based on country tax rates". On an AI-estimated D&A cell, the row name is followed by "AI estimate based on signals discovered for your company".
A small dot on the wand marks a cell where the suggestion is an AI estimate. On Basic, these rows cannot be edited after the first column, and hovering shows "To edit this number, switch to Input Level: Advanced".
How do I override an estimate?
Click the cell and type your own figure. A 0 counts as your answer and is kept.
Click Save financials.
Nothing changes until you save. The dot stays on the wand because it describes the suggestion, not your value.
For AI Discovery companies, first-year and last-year revenue are saved as your own figures when discovery finishes. Every other empty AI-estimated cell is filled from the AI estimate when you open Financials, and those values become yours when you save.
Can I go back to the estimate?
Yes, one cell at a time. In Advanced, click the magic wand on that cell to put the suggested value back, then save.
The toolbar's history icon, with the tooltip "Reset financials table", opens a dialog titled Reset financials. Clicking Reset restores first-year revenue and the last-year values from your company's first saved financials and sets the other cells to 0. Cells set to 0 are not refilled; use the magic wand to bring estimates back.
Limits
Estimates and the Financials tab are available on the free plan and on paid plans.
Document Upload writes its figures straight into your table, so they carry no AI dot.
Financials cannot be saved until at least one of Cost of goods sold, Salaries or Other operating expenses is above 0 in the final forecast year.
Common questions
Does an estimate count in my valuation?
Yes, while your financials are incomplete. The valuation then uses a full estimated set of financials instead of yours: the AI estimate if your company has a usable one, otherwise the industry-average estimate. Once your financials are complete and saved, the valuation uses your saved figures.
Is there a Confirm button for estimated financial rows?
No. The "Pre-filled by AI" badge with a Confirm button appears on questionnaire answers only. In Financials, you accept an estimate by saving it and replace it by typing over it.
Does overriding a cell delete the estimate?
No. Estimates are stored separately from your figures, so the magic wand can still apply the suggestion later.
