Deleting a company: what happens and why you cannot restore it

Deleting a company removes it from your organisation and the app cannot restore it. Export its data and revoke shared links first.

You delete a company from the Portfolio page, using the trash icon in the company's row. Deleting removes the company from your organisation, so nobody in the organisation can open it afterwards. The app has no restore option, so you cannot bring the company back yourself. Export what you want to keep and turn off public access to its reports before you confirm.

How do I delete a company?

  1. Open Portfolio from the top-right menu. The entry is hidden on phone-sized screens, so use a larger screen.

  2. Find the company in the table and click the trash icon in its row. Its tooltip reads Delete company.

  3. A dialog titled Are you sure? names the company and says it "will not be accessible anymore". Click ok to delete it, or cancel to keep it.

The row disappears straight away. If you deleted the company you were working in, the page reloads and opens another company from your organisation.

What does deleting do to the company's data?

Deleting does not erase the company's data or reports. It removes the company from your organisation, so it no longer appears in your Portfolio or in your organisation's company list. You cannot restore it yourself, because the app has no restore or undo option. To work on the company again in the app, create a new company, as described in How do I create a new company profile?.

Public pages built from the company's reports stay online after the delete. An interactive report link keeps working for anyone who has it until its link expiry passes. A report verification page, reached through the report's QR code, stays reachable too. You cannot change either one once the company is deleted, because the controls sit inside the company.

What should I do before deleting?

Save what you may need later and close public access while you still can.

  • Download the company's data as an Excel file with the row action Download this company as Excel, or with Download Company Data on the Reports page.

  • Download any valuation report you want to keep. The row action Download the last report (PDF) saves the most recent one.

  • Revoke each interactive report link you shared, using Revoke Link in the share drawer on the Reports page.

  • Turn off report verification on each report where the toggle reads Verification on.

Does deleting a company delete its scenarios?

No. A scenario is a separate company, created as a copy of the original and named "original name - scenario name". Deleting the original leaves its scenarios in place, and deleting a scenario leaves the original in place. Delete each one on its own if you want them all gone.

Limits

  • Plan: you do not need a paid plan to delete a company. The action is available on the free plan too.

  • Last company: you cannot delete the only company in your organisation. The trash icon is hidden when the Portfolio holds one company. Add another company first if you want to replace it.

  • Valuation period: for a company with a valuation period on record, the trash icon does not open the confirmation dialog. It opens a message titled ooops! that says there is an ongoing valuation period and asks you to contact us.

  • Who can delete: any user in your organisation who can open the company can delete it. The app does not check organisation roles before a delete.

  • Failure: if the delete does not go through, the company reappears in the table and a message says "The company could not be deleted. Please try again."

Common questions

I deleted a company by accident. Can I get it back?

The app has no restore option. You can create the company again in your organisation.

Why is there no trash icon next to my company?

The icon is hidden when your organisation has only one company. Add a second company and the icon appears on both rows.

Why do I see "ooops!" instead of the confirmation dialog?

The company has a valuation period on record, so the app blocks the delete. Contact us through the chat if you still want to delete it.

Will people I shared a report link with still see the report?

Yes, until the link expires. Revoke it on the Reports page before you delete the company.
