Company name: how to rename it and why it locks after purchase

On the free plan you can rename your company on the Company page. Once a package is bought for it, the name locks and only support can change it.

You can rename a company yourself while it is on the free plan. As soon as a paid package is bought for that company, its name locks, and from then on only our support team can change it. The lock is permanent for that company, even after your paid access ends.

Why does my company have the wrong name?

This happens when you sign up on the free plan with a website address in the company name field. In that case we store a placeholder name built from the first part of the address, so "getbaroque.ai" becomes "Getbaroque". Rename it on the Company page as described below.

How do I rename my company on the free plan?

  1. Open Company in the left sidebar.

  2. Type the new name in the Company Name field at the top of the page.

  3. Save your changes with the save button.

The new name shows in the header and sidebar without reloading. While renaming is allowed, the field shows this line underneath: "You can rename your company until you buy a valuation package. After that, changes go through our support team."

Why does the name lock after I buy?

A package is bought for one company, and the name is what ties the purchase and your valuation report to that business. If the name could change freely after purchase, one purchase could cover several different businesses.

The lock applies to any successful paid purchase for the company, not only to a specific plan. It stays in place even after your access days run out.

Can I check the name before I pay?

Yes. When you upgrade from the free plan, the confirmation step shows a Check your company name card above your billing details. It shows the current name and says: "This is the name that will appear on your valuation report. Once you buy, it can only be changed by contacting support."

To change it there, click Edit name, type the new name, and click Save name. Cancel closes the field without saving. Then continue with Proceed to checkout. If the company is already locked, the card shows the locked message instead of the Edit name button.

How do I change a locked name?

Message us on the chat and tell us the company and the new name. Our support team can rename locked companies.

On a locked company, the Company Name field is greyed out, and hovering over it shows a tooltip asking you to message us on the chat.

Limits

  • Self-service renaming works only for a company that has never been paid for.

  • If your organisation has a licence covering its companies, company names are always locked, including for companies on the free plan. Ask support to rename them.

  • Each company in your account locks on its own. Buying a package for one company does not lock the others.

  • A company name can be up to 40 characters.

  • You cannot save an empty name over an existing one.

  • If a purchase completes while you are editing, for example in another tab, the save is refused and this message appears: "The company name is locked once a valuation package has been purchased. Message us on the chat to change it."

Common questions

I upgraded and then my access ran out. Can I rename the company now?

No. Once a company has been paid for, its name stays locked, even after your access ends. Message us on the chat to change it.

Can I rename a company to start a valuation for a different business?

On the free plan you can rename a company to any name up to 40 characters. After purchase, add a new company for the new business instead of asking to rename the paid one.

Does renaming one company change the others in my account?

No. The name and the lock belong to one company. Your other companies keep their own names.

Why is the name field greyed out even though I never paid?

Your company probably belongs to a licensed organisation, where names are always locked. Message us on the chat and we can rename it for you.
